In 1981, company founder John Katzman sat down with 15 high school students to help them prepare for the SAT. The Sara Beattie Group has been offering the best test preparation courses through the Hong Kong franchise of The Princeton Review since 1988 and the Mumbai franchise since 2002. Further expansion took place in 2003 with the opening of The Princeton Review Kuala Lumpur and The Princeton Review Shanghai.
