TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL is an internet-based test (iBT) that is often required for non-native English speakers who want to attend school in the US. It is broken up into four sections: reading, writing, listening and speaking. TOEFL scores range from 0 to 120 and are valid for two years.

The TOEFL is used to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. TOEFL scores are required for admission by more than 2,400 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The TOEFL is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the language of instruction. In addition, government agencies, scholarship programs and licensing/certification agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficiency.
